I can roller skate very well, would I be able to ice skate easily?

There are some things that will come easily to you because you can roller skate, and others that will be hard. Stopping is different, of course, as is spinning and some of the jumps. But your experience roller skating will definately help you.

One girl at my rink skates beautifully. She started about a year ago, on ice, but she'd done years on roller skates beforehand.

You should also know that Tara Lipinsky, Olympic gold medallist in figure skating, started as a roller skater. In addition, a lot of (in fact, most of) the people on the US Olympic team in speed skating are former inline-skaters. So the skills do transfer, to a certain extent.

I can roller skate very well, would I be able to ice skate easily?
Yes it is pretty much the same thing, the only difference is stopping, which is quite hard to learn on ice.
Reply:it depends stopping is really different. cool thing is that it hurts a lot less when u fall. rollerblading really helped me to develop my ice skating. u learn how to push off and crossover well
Reply:You'll probably be able to learn much faster than others who haven't dun roller skating or any type of skating at all, but it might just take a little while to get used to the ice - it can be slippery. It really depends for each person...
Reply:Personally, I find it easier to ice skate. But most other people find it much, much easier to roller-skate, as it's not as slippery. Practice roller-skating on a slippery surface, or just have a go at ice skating!
Reply:Dunno. I'm an atrocious roller skater (well, not terrible), but I can jump and spin on ice after only 7 months. It all depends.
Reply:need much stronger ankles...cant predict but i rollered good and couldnt skate.
Reply:I don't know, I can ice skate but can't roller skate. You do need much stronger ankles to ice skate.
Reply:Yes , sure.....

don't worry my friend.
Reply:I think so. If you love anything, you can do anything. Hope your dream comes true.

Good luck!

Anyone like roller skating?

I do. I wish I could get out more and do it. I'm in the beginner stage of it, since I get to go out and use it probably a handful of times each year.

I start out shaky, but get better. This past Spring though I had my first wipeout. Went to fast down a hill and lost control, I slid about 20 feet in my butt, and it was sore after.

Falling was great though. It's giving me another chance to pick myself up and try it again. A growth opportunity.

Roller skating on the sims 2 seasons?

i recently bought the sims 2 seasons and one of my sims wants to to rollerskate.....how can i have her do that?

Roller skating on the sims 2 seasons?
1st go into buy mode......then i believe i click on the icon w/ a dart board on it............it should be in there, but u need a lot of room for it.............either build a whole floor for it or build your house on the biggest lot size available, or create a community lot w/ it there.........once it is placed there and u r in live mode, just click on it and select rollerskate
Reply:first call a taxi. then choose Rapid Racers roller rink. there will be a roller rink. it will look like a skating rink only without ice. it will have a brown wooden floor. it will have red bars all around it except for where you come in and exit the roller rink. and you don't have to rent or buy rollerskates. u know how when your sims change clothes they do a spin jump thing into there clothes. they will do that. last choose rollerskate. her want is fulfilled and u have some new aspiration points.

almost forgot. u can buy a rollerrink or skating rink at home but make sure your lot is big as they r big. go to hobbies and then search for it. sorry i forget where it is. but you'll find after a few minutes of searching. heres a money cheat to help you out. hold shift ctrl and c and type in mtoherlode. then press enter. this cheat gives you 50 thousand dollars.

hope i helped

If i put roller skate wheels on a skateboard?

I mainly skate on streets, will it be good for me? will it be smoother? will it be worst? help please : )

If i put roller skate wheels on a skateboard?
i have a board with roller skate wheels on it and it works fine. i rolller skate more than i skateboard, so i don't know how to qualify the difference, but really it works fine. you would want to use outdoor wheels though, there are indoor kinds too, and the indoor ones would get chewed up pretty quick on streets. and i doubt you'll fall if you are careful!
Reply:well it wont work unless u have about 5 risers

if u do have 5 risers u will fall

ull look like a dork

itll b impossible to ollie with 5 risers or do any other trick

it might be smoother.. but who cares?

o and bearings wont fit with roller sk8 wheels

uhmm ull have u get huge size trucks for fitting the roller sk8 wheels on it

BAD IDEA
Reply:U will fall
Reply:get a pair of darkstar wheels. they are the widest and smoothest. other than that i dont think it would be a bad idea at all
Reply:ummm.....id advise u to do it on soft material at first or dont do it all cuase no offences but i think ur gonna fall while doing it...but if u do do it, do it on soft material first
Reply:I don't think that's a good idea...
Reply:Give it a shot, the worst that can happen is you won;t like it.
Reply:im thinkin not a good idea because the rollerskate wheels if you use the inside ones have way to much grip on them it would totally catch u up. but outside rollerskate wheels maybe . try it. it may work . also outside wheels are softer than board wheels so .. idk

How do you roller skate?

I really wanna learn how to skate and I'd like to learn fast. Can anyone help me with that?

it's kinda like walking/running except you slide your feet outward from you (like left/right)

Most new roller derby skaters haven't skated since they were kids. See if there's a newer league in your area, they tend to be more welcoming of newer skaters. Never hurts to ask about their training program. It's a terrifically fun sport, to boot!

Left handed roller skater?

Is it true that people that are left handed can't roller skate as good. I'm sure some left handed people can, but is it harder for them. If so, why? Most left handed people i know can't.

Left handed roller skater?
um i've never heard of something like that..yeah there is the thing where leftys use the right side of the brain and rightys use the left but still i dont think that affects how you roller skate....its more a matter of practice and effort...i used to skate all the time and im a lefty
Reply:No, it isn't true. People make up stuff like that because their aren't as many lefties, than as rightys. I heard this one thing that people were saying. They said that if you are a lefty, you will die sooner than rightys. I thought that was retarded. Some nuns believe that if you are a lefty, you have demons inside of you.

It's not true!! Also, I roller skate really well and I am a lefty.
Reply:no im left handed and a pretty good rollerskater
Reply:I don't think it matters, personally. I have, however, heard about some competitive skaters who are left-handed that rotate the opposite way on jumps because they feel that it is easier for them. To be a good skater, all you have to do is practice!

Is roller skating an effective form of excercise, or is walking better?

For a 150 pound person for 1 hour:

Walking - 4 mph

340 calories in 1 hr

Roller Skating

476 calories in 1 hr

According to those calculations, roller skating actually burns more calories.

Is roller skating an effective form of excercise, or is walking better?
Both are good exercise. Do which ever you like.

Or is it different?

If you can roller skate and roller blade -does it stand to reason you should be able to ice skate ?
Ice skating and roller blading are different, but they do use some of the same types of skills. You can learn to ice skate though just like you learn how to roller blade.
Reply:ya its the same thing on diffrent turf
Reply:yes.

same thing
Reply:um...not really, im an excellent rollerblader, get me on the ice and i look like an idiot. theres a difference- no matter what anyone else says.
Reply:It's a lot different! I'm a really good inline skater, but I was shocked when I got on the ice! But I got the hang of ice-skating in 30 minutes, it's similar motions.

BTW- It's inline skating, not "Rollerblading". Rollerblade is an inline company.
Reply:If you are really good at lets say roller-blading then you may have a little trouble skating so I suggest that you talk to someone at a local rink and see what they think about it.

For me it was about the same but everyone is different and may have different ways to learn things.
Reply:It's a similar motion, but most people feel awkward their first time on the ice even if they've rollerskated.

With most kids, give them an hour on the ice and by the end they're going along just fine.
Reply:no diff son
Reply:It's way different, because it is more slippery on the ice, and you have to have a lot of traction. I am however, good at rollerblading, because I figure skate.

Reply:I love roller skating, better than blading. My daughters and I go every other weekend. It is so fun. I'm okay. I don't care, I just like it. I like to speed around to the music.

I don't mind when people write sk8er.

If you would like to become a better skater then think about contacting a rollerskating instructor at your nearest roller rink. most have them on staff for beginning threw world class instruction.
Reply:No, sadly I have stunk at skating all my life.
Reply:I like roller skating,, it takes me a few mintes to get back in the swing of it though.

i like sk8er, i dunno why, i guess its more fun to read.
Reply:No I am not good at roller skating. My legs just get farther and farther apart until I'm doing a split - OUCH! It has been some time since we've been, but my husband can dance and do all kinds of tricks on the things - well at least he used to do them. I don't really care how they write skater. I write it skater myself.
Reply:Blading.i fell down in a Roller Rink once cuz i was trying to do that thing that Jessica Simpson does in her video for "Public Affair" when she and the hott guy like, dance inside of it.yea.stoopid me.i know.
Reply:I like roller blading better than roller skating. Roller blading allows you to do more stunts than roller skating does.

-No I do not like it when people write sk8er. They might think they are being cleaver with their little funky spelling, but through my eyes it shows that they are so lazy that they could even type in one letter.
Reply:i like rolerblading more :D
Reply:Actually they are both a lot of fun, if you want to dance and do spinds and stuff, skates are better, but I like the Blades, you can still do a lot of stuff, and they glide much better, especially if your going on a long trip. like at a bike path throuhg parks and small towns like in Florida, or in Colorado where you are blading along the rapids and just 10 yards away people are in rafts shooting down the rapids, really cool! Sk*er or skater, I say to each their own, different strokes for different folks! Have a nice day and a good skate what ever your preference is!

What is a skate? not a roller skate but a fish skate.?

Its a member of the ray family, slightly larger more commonly caught and eaten in Europe, (not what i would call decent fair)

AJ

What is a skate? not a roller skate but a fish skate.?
A skate is a ray, like a sting ray without the stinger.
Reply:Type of ray. Related to sharks. Kinda looks like a cross between a shark and a sting ray. Bottom feeder. Dogfish is one.

Breaking in a hard roller skate?

I have the Reidell Carrera's quad speed skate and they are a very hard boot! I discovered my right foot is slightly wider than my left. It actually looks like I have a bone sticking out the right side of my right foot. Well the boot is VERY hard and I have had them for about 3 months and I skate about 12 hours a week and it's not 'breaking in', any tips? It's somewhat painful after about an hour. I used to not be able to skate for more than 10 mintutes at a time, so they are getting better! Help!

Breaking in a hard roller skate?
Hi Sarah,

Wow, sounds painful. My last pair of skates were a little too narrow too. They were the cheapy Torqs though.

Have you tried taking the boot into a shoe repair shop that can stretch the boot for you? That's what I did. If you go to a shop that has a stretcher they can try to pinpoint where to stretch it based on your foot. The machine uses heat to gently stretch the leather out. I've heard of other girls wetting their socks then going skating or sitting around the house until the boot dries to the shape of their foot but that sounds more like it shrinks the leather rather than expanding it. Try a shoe repair shop with a stretcher!!!

I want to learn how to rollerskate/inline skate, what kind of skates should i get & whats the best way 2 learn?

I really want to learn how to inline skate, but i guess i need to learn how to actually skate first. What is a good skate that would fit my needs that is also affordable? (less than $100)

Having one skate specifically for roller skating and one for inline skating is fine. I would first need to learn how to rollerskate so yeah. Also, what would you recommend for me to learn how to rollerskate/inline skate? I live in the bay area in california so if anyone knows any places to learn that would be great. I am a teen male so i wouldnt want to go to places that wouldnt accept me. (oops, now im starting to not make sense) Thanks!

I want to learn how to rollerskate/inline skate, what kind of skates should i get %26amp; whats the best way 2 learn?
Dude why buy 2 pairs? Just get your in-lines, elbow pads, knee pads and a helmet. Go to a smooth surface and keep trying till you roll and you'll get better and better. Go to a skate shop and they will recommend a nice pair of in-lines for you. Kowabunga !!!
Reply:i'd say just go with a skate that has a comfortable liner and doesnt rub on your shin then as you get better and better try something like hockey skating or aggressive (freestyle) skating Report It

Reply:Ok, first of all it's really opinion. I acctually roller skate than roller blade. Roller blading is always some sort of imbalance because the wheels are "in-line" in the middle of your foot and always can stumble you. I roller skate inside and outside, cause the wheels are located on the strong balance point areas of the foot. But it can be hard to find some quads (roller skates) around. The best place to start is always the rink. From there you can take lessons and get better to then skate outside. There is also jamskating and dance with quads too.

But if you really wanna go ahead with roller blades, your choice, as once again it's opinion. Hope this helps!
Reply:I went to this skate shop in Iowa just go on ebay or something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seniors: Did you like to go to the roller rink?

I can still remember the organ music and the attendant telling us not to skate fast. Then came disco roller skating, such fun. I would take my son skating and whirl around the rink.

Seniors: Did you like to go to the roller rink?
Yes I loved going, I even earned a badge in Girl Scouts for it.lol What I wish I could have learned to do is dance with a partner while skating. I used to love my older cousin and her boyfriend do that. I remember them telling you not to skate so fast, or someone taking you out of the rink for misbehaving. Did you do the Hokey Pokey on skates? I did it at my sons bithday party, and all the kids couldn't believe it, they couldn't believe I could skate either.
Reply:That's something I don't want to participate in. The kids there are wild and I know I would go down.

However I will rollerblade on a trail with them.
Reply:I loved to go to the skating rink %26amp; did so as often as I could. I loved the organ music %26amp; it was a great way to meet some real cute guys. I skated all the time as a youngster. I got my first brand new pair of Chicago Flyers when I was in elementary school. I couldn't wait to put those skates on every day. While breaking them in, sparks would fly from the wheels %26amp; my dad used to call me "Sparkie." I used to skate up %26amp; down the sidewalks on the street where I lived %26amp; I skated like lightening.
Reply:I havn't been skating for at least 40 yrs, but for 28 years all the time. Loved roller and ice skating.

Reply:Every Sat afternoon, sure made me get my chores done quickly so I could go into town and have more time to skate.
Reply:Roller skating was the big thing when I was in the early teens. All the young 'uns would go there and it was a safe place to be. Sadly they took the rink down. I still wonder what happened to all the kids we used to skate with.
Reply:I watched at one once when my cousin went. We didn't have any around here.My son tried to get me to do blades at a youth party maybe 10 years ago, but I was the driver, so I passed !!!
Reply:Boy, did I go to the skating rink? It was in Arkansas where I went to help clear land on my step uncles's land. I had a crush on my step cousin so I chose to go. We'd go to the field at 5:30 am to "pick up chunks" until 6OO pm in the hot summer sun. Our reward was going to the skating rink in a nearby run down po dunk town. I was so sunburned and tired I couldn't put one skate in front of the other. Needless to say my 16 yr old love interest was asleep on the wooden bench.
Reply:I was always on my roller skates when I was a tween. I lived on them. And mine were the metal ones with the skate key.

I did not the roller blades when they came out. More like ice skates, I could not keep my balance. So I looked around for years and finally found a pair of Sketchers shoe skates (4) wheels. But alas I never use them. I do not have any medical insurance, so now I am afraid if I go to the rink I will fall and break my hip, or leg or something. And I can't afford to do that. I remember the last time I was at a rink, was when my kids were young. I was knocked down by some speed demon kid and sprained my wrist really bad.
Reply:I met my husband at the roller rink in 1978, the year I graduated from high school. I was 18, he was 24. A year and a half after we met, we got married. We've been married 28 years this past July. My husband was the king of the rink, he could skate really well, do fancy jumps and all kinds of tricks. I guess he was kind of like the John Travolta of the skate rink! So, I have a lot of nice memories of it!
Reply:I use to love to go roller skating!!
Reply:every weekend...lol last time i skated...sometime now, i feel and cracked my hip...painful...%26lt;%26gt;%26lt;

Reply:We didn't have roller rinks in Scotland, but I was always at the Ice Rink, I loved a Saturday night skating round to all the latest hits, and hanging out in the cafe with a hot chocolate. The young ones still do it here.
Reply:I used to go ice skating at the rink. Let me claify that, I used to go to the rink and become a zamboni butt, I spent more time on my butt that I did ice skating. but the ice was nice and shiny when I got through sweeping it.

My boys went to the roller rink

I had rollerskates that clipped on to your shoes and we would skate on the sidewalk, I ran over a priest..........
Reply:I'm a Chiropractor, and can honestly say skating at the roller rink may not be the best sport for seniors. Nordik walking, however, totally rocks! (along with swimming, water aerobics, golf, hammock laying).

How will roller skating affect the wood floor you find in a typical classroom? Damage? Things to keep in mind?

The skating would take place once a week, 15 children. Could be in the classroom, gym (I know they have coatings on the floors there), the cafeteria or other large room in the building. What effect would skating have on the gym floor? Thanks, community. The kids will love ya if we can make this happen...

How will roller skating affect the wood floor you find in a typical classroom? Damage? Things to keep in mind?
It depends on how sturdy the floor is really. Some skating rinks use wooden floors for their skating area, so it might work in the gym, as well. Best thing is to find out the wood used and how sturdy it is.

If roller skating on ramps were a sport, would it be called aggressive or vertical roller skating?

A sport which has been around for over 30 years, yet no-one knows about it. It's making a come-back with youth getting interested in learning about this new sport, and how it can be tamed by naming it appropriately. Some say aggressive, cuz' of the way riders get mad to attempt and suceed at performing their tricks, and others say it's just fun and they have a good time learning new tricks in this old sport. Either way, this type of rollerskating is on a comeback trail.

If roller skating on ramps were a sport, would it be called aggressive or vertical roller skating?

How to roller skate well?

i can skate (kinda) but i want to learn to do more challenging things like spin and skate backwards and such. i know it might sound girly but i like to skate. can anybody give me some tips?

How to roller skate well?
Do you go to a local rink or just skate outside? It takes a lot of practice to be able to do jumps and spins. There are a lot of guys that skate so nothing to be ashamed of. Find a local rink and skate there. They offer lessons usually far more inexpensive than Ice and take a few. Study videos and practice. Focus on arm positioning and how you wrap your legs and such.

Good luck!

~C~
Reply:just go for it. You have to learn your own techniques on how your feet move with your skates and your stance. It is up to you to push yourself to turn yourself.

I am thinking about picking up roller blading as a hobby?

Yet recollection of my younger days with my failed and painful attempts to learn how to roller skate and skate board were not pleasant. For absolute beginner, how easy is roller blading to learn?

I am thinking about picking up roller blading as a hobby?
rollerblading is really fun and easy to pick up fast.i love to rollerblade but i like to skateboard more!!
Reply:All i can say is don't give up on Roller skating!! I am a competitive roller skater and of course I love it!! Roller blading is not too fun either!! But that is my thought!! You have more balance on roller skates so I think you should work on your balance and get comfy then get on blades if you really feel the need to!!

Good luck!!! If you don't mind me asking, Where are you located?
Reply:easy to learn, medium hard to do.

getting going is easy, turning and stopping without falling is the challenge, but you can do it!
Reply:It's easier than regular skates to me, better balance over all. I got I really nice pair of Rollerblade Parkways, they were about $120-130 new. I liked them and they felt good on, but after going for 15 minutes my toes would start to fall asleep from the vibration on the asphalt and it really hurt after a while. I would rent a pair first to see if you have any problems with them before you buy a pair. Biking is always fun too and more of a workout as well.
Reply:It will not be easy. You must be extremely comfortable with falling a lot. It will hurt. In the end it is SOOOOO worth it!
Reply:I was not blessed in the coordination department, yet I can Rollerblade. You can do it and it is so much fun!

Wear full gear - helmet, wrist guards, elbow and knee pads. You may feel like an idiot wearing it all, but when you fall it will be worth the humilation to discover you are unhurt. Pads take out a lot of the "fear of pain" factor.

I didn't fall my first few times out. But now that I've gained some confidence and speed I seem to routinely fall. Oh well - pads work wonders.
Reply:SOme tell me easier that 4 wheels. I havne't bladed before, though. I hear it is awesome exercise!
Reply:Not that difficult. I found it a bit like skiing. Not much more difficult than that. Much more stable than roller skating. Easier to roll over objects and bumps without tripping. Stopping is a trick, but it's not difficult.
Reply:Its cool and fun I roller skate also and its so fun you might run In to hot and good looking guys!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Reply:i say go for it!

it`s simple. i remember trying to reconnect to my past on these roller blades because i had issues with my legs. they tend to hurt at one time and the next minute the pain is gone. long story short: we went to the doctor and had xrays and paid loads of $$ and end up with no kind of problem .. they couldn`t figure it out and yet replaced the issue with the term "growing pains"

.. so then my friends and i went for a roll around the block .. this is when i still feel partial pain ..

i got used to it because i was so tempted. my advice is take it one step at a time. if it doesn`t work out ;; you may want to stretch out and warm up the muscles.

hope this helps! =]] and good luck.
Reply:If you have tried roller skating when you were younger, than you should learn fast. I hated roller skating when I was younger and really stank at it, than I did it again and I loved it, and was really good at it!!!!!
Reply:Experiance is the best teacher :)

But seriously just practice at some of the local roller rinks that are still around, they usually have alot of nights for beginners and stuff.

Roller blading is alot of fun and good to do with friends.
Reply:it's actually pretty easy. go to a lil kids skatin rink and hold on to the rail. just to let you know though my mom broke her elbow rollerskating.
Reply:It's really easy. I learned rollerblading and all you half to do is kind of kick off and glide. It's really easy and you hardly ever fall down. EVen on my first try I didn't, because it's so easy with the breaks and everything. =)

Reply:I roller skate. not roller blading. i am very good at going forwards. i skate for hour and don't fall down, and there is not a roller skating category sorry this was the closest category. i was the asker. i want to know how to go faster backwards Report It

Reply:im a pro skater. (i wish) lol. but i can do some basic moves. it takes practice, practice, practice. you need to push backwards to go forwards and vica versa. have your skates at a bit of an otwards angle, this will give you more control and make you go faster.

to spin you have to push of your outer skate and keep the inner one still. kind of like a maths compass.
Reply:myspace.com/skate101com. check out this myspace. Jenny teaches people how to skate using music. Also go to http://www.skatefm.com then in the bottom right corner click on learn to jamskate. this will show you some of the things you can do on roller skates that you COULD NEVER DO on ice skates. skating backwards, try this, stand with your feet a little bigger than shoulder with apart. Keeping both skates on the floor, weave your skates in and out so that the line on the ground forms an hourglass shape. eventually, the more power you give to the curves, the faster you can go. If you are having problems, concentrate on moving your weight from the inside of your skate wheels to the outside and back. make sure the trucks of your skates have been loosened, as it will greatly help in your ability to maneuver in this drill. When you say spin, do you mean how do you turn around?180 degree turn- front to back. skating at a neutral pace, place your right foot out in front and transfer your weight to it. Lift your left foot off the ground and place it behind your right with the toe facingbackwards ( your heels will be almost touching) . In one movement as your right skate hits the ground, let your left skate come off the floor as you pick it up and turn around so that it also faces the back. The best way to learn to skate is go to a rink so you can see other people skate. Front crossover, As you are coming around the curve, push off with your right foot and transfer your weight to your left foot. As you glide on your left foot, cross your right foot over and in front of your left and transfer your weight back to your right and then reset for another one. Remember there are 2 pushes in a crossover-one from the initial lift-off of the right foot( normal counter clockwise direction) and a toe-flick push from the left foot towards the out side. I hope this helps. KEEP ON ROLLEN. SMOOTH REXER, coach, team CARNEVIL of the Jet City Roller Girls.
Reply:uuuuu.... do u meen ROLLER skating? if u do, this shouldn't be pasted on ICE/FIGURE skating! it shouldn't even be pasted on winter sports! and by the way, ie skating rocks!!! wayyyyyy better than roller skating, inline skating, hockey skating, and speed skating!!!!! ice/figure skating is my life!!! and i have my own gorgeous skates!!!! and i'm proud of it! and you can barely do anything on roller skates except skating froward! you can't do any trick that your can do in ice skating!!!
Reply:It's much easier to these things on ice (which is the category). Since your on roller blades, you have separate wheels that all have minds of their own. It's easier on ice skates on the ice, because you've got a singular blade, which is moving smoothly on the ice. Try ice skating, you might find it a lot easier.

P.S. you will find things much more helpful if you pst your question in the correct category. This is the ice skating category, so your question is going to be answered mostly by ice skaters.

Roller skating or ice skating? Roller for me.?

No one can answer the question FOR you.

A lot depends on what facilities you have.

We have a lot of trails that we can use in nice weather and an indoor facility (www.roller-dome.com) where people can go fast on roller skates in the winter. I use inline skates.

We have a lot of ice sheets here but many are busy with hockey.

I happen to like skating outside on trails or streets much better than a rink. I find going around in circles boring.

If you have more ice availability, like staying in a rink, or want to do classic figure skating moves, ice may be better.

You might even want to do a combination of inline skates in the summer and ice in the winter. The skills are a little different but very compatible.

If you want to stay in smaller rinks indoors and want wheels, then quad (the old style roller skates) may be for you. They are more manueverable but slower and less stable than inline skates.

Roller skating or ice skating? Roller for me.?
ice skating, well because I am the county champ at the YMCA, and it is challenging. I still like rollor, but it is just when i am at home with non ice friends.
Reply:Roller Skatin For Sure!
Reply:Try both and decide which one you like better!

I roller skated as a kid - and went to ice skating later on. I enjoyed both but have preferred ice skating since I started!

Have fun skating!

Roller skating and ice skating, are they similar? is it easy to transition from one to the other?

They are not the same. I have much trouble roller skating but I can ice skate just fine, And roller blading (in line) is alot like ice skating

Roller skating and ice skating, are they similar? is it easy to transition from one to the other?
the blades cut thorugh the ice and you can really feel the blade beneath your foot. maneuravability is good. on in-lines you have the same motion, but it feels different because the wheels are more "spongy" than a blade. they are not as responsive as ice skates. cannot comment on regular roller skates..I don't do those.
Reply:I've been ice skating for some time, and I figured roller skating would be easy, because I ice skated. I was SO WRONG. Roller skating (I have quad skates) is completely different from ice skating. I am all over the place on roller skates. I'm having trouble finding, as the other poster described it, the balance point. And pushing off is different. So my stroking is cr*p. I'm actually looking for a roller skating teacher to get me over this initial transition!

Some things are actually easier on roller skates, though. Mohawks, for example, which I tend to wide-step on ice, are easy on roller skates.
Reply:Yeah, I wonder that to!
Reply:There are similarities, but technique changes for small things. A lot of the moves are the same, but due to the different center of balance between a blade/toe pick and wheels you may have to go at it differently. We used to have a skater at our rink who started as a roller skater and changed to ice. She did okay and excelled quickly, but -- not to sound biased -- I'd cringe every time I would watch her land a jump because she always landed on a flat. Wooo--- pretty double toe...yeesh, bad landing. :) I think she went back to the roller.

There are a lot of skaters who make the transition. Tara Lipinski started in roller and (obviously) changed to ice. It seems whatever skills a skater has in one carries over to the other.
Reply:well i used to roller skate when i was younger and when i started ice skating i found it easier than all the other beginers ... just because i knew how to roller skate !
Reply:i think it will be fine. it is a little different. roller skating has 4 wheels but rooler blading has all four whells in a row and is more like ice skating
Reply:Well, there are no toe picks on roller skates, so that'd be harder. In my opinion, ice skating is easier.

Reply:yes it is, i used to rollar skate n in line blade alot, n thn i tried ice skating, now i figure skate 3 times a week =D so yea thy are similar, but whether or not its easy to change from one to the other depends on the person, it was rly easy for me.
Reply:They are really quite a bit different. I've been ice skating for years but I always have a hard time going roller skating.

Your balance point and where you have to put your weight are totally different when you go from being on a 1/4" blade to four wheels. Also, roller skates are quite a bit heavier than ice skates. Really, it's where you're used to putting your weight and balance that makes the transition tricky.
Reply:I know quite a few long time, experienced roller skaters (quad skaters) who switched to ice skating . . . and they are doing fabulously on ice. I do notice they use a lot more power on the ice than needed sometimes (roller skaters have to muscle it more in technique than on ice) . . . many say they have chronic knee, hip and back pain. The ice is more forgiving, so they say certain moves are a lot easier - like spins.

But as Roaring Mice mentioned, it's totally different the other way around . . . it's tough for ice skaters to get used to quads! On ice skates, because your leg balances on one thin piece of metal, it moves with your leg sort of like an extention of it . . . so it's easier to move about as it works with your "lean". But on quads, you have four "thick" wheels that keep your foot practicially planted on the floor . . . so you need to be more conscious of where the weight goes in your foot when you do a move. With the feet planted, the legs kinda have to torque, so I think that's why many of them have ankle/knee problems.

I rollerskated a lot as a kid, though not competitively. I think understanding how to move in them helped me to pick up ice skating quickly later on in life.

Now inline skating or "rollerblading" . . . though they are different from ice skating too, they are probably more similar than roller skates (quads).

I want to get these, Razor Cult 7, aggressive skates.?

i'm 13, and i played roller hockey for years, what i mean is.. is that i already know how to skate.

I skateboard too, but i want to get into rollerskating street style too.

I found these Razor Cult 7 skates, i don't know much about aggressive skates (because i usually look for hockey roller skates), is this a good "aggressive" skate to buy? And if not, what other skates do you suggest (online links would be appreciated!) ?

and i'm willing to pay NO more than $200.

Please Help Me !!! thanks much.

I want to get these, Razor Cult 7, aggressive skates.?
Dear little brother, don’t buy it online. Go to a sport store and wear the gear feel it test it if you can know how the stripes are gripping your feet, feel the flow of wheel either they are flawless or not. etc. etc.

For sports the mental satisfaction %26amp; attachment with your gear makes significant effect in performance.

Roller skate question!!?

My husband and I have Roller Derby quads that have 70mm wheels on the back and 60 mm wheels on the front. Does anyone know if we can replace them with 4 wheels that are the same size? Or if we can use any different sizes?

Roller skate question!!?
Y not,for flat smooth surfaces.
Reply:If you are speaking of quad art and dance skates I have no exp. wtih these and disregard this.

If it is speed or Jam skates then yes you can use the same size wheels front and back.
Reply:You should be able to replace them - to make them all the same size. As for different sizes, it would depend on the type of skate and the size of the axle.

Roller Skate or Roller Blade??

Hehehe! Are you trying to figure out our ages??

I grew up before the era of roller blades, so I had roller skates when I was a kid, but now I have roller blades! So I upgraded!! :) (More to appear younger!!)

And you??

Roller Skate or Roller Blade??
Personally, I prefer roller skates.

I HAVE owned roller blades so I can skate in both. I just find roller skates a lot more fun, and more versatile. Blades make my ankles hurt a bit and I prefer the toe stop at the front.
Reply:I can't do either one...would love to try.
Reply:Roller skate..the old-fashioned way is my way..!

Roller Skating. Is their any aggresive skaters out there who use quads instead of inlines.?

I'm about to start skating again but have never skated on anything but quads.

Roller Skating. Is their any aggresive skaters out there who use quads instead of inlines.?
trust me you go slow as ssshhhiiiittt w/ quads on inlines you can take the turns alot more sharper and faster
Reply:I still wear my quads with pride! Not sure I can handle inlines, so I'm sticking with my disco boots. Used to own a pair of Bauers but I sold them in a moment of madness ;-)

Did you roller skate as a kid?

What songs do you remember skating to?

I went skating with my kids recently and didn't know ANY of the songs!

Did you roller skate as a kid?
I rollerskated and they kept playing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" over and over and over....
Reply:yes i did
Reply:I just skated mostly outside..I used to do cartwheels and flips in my skates. I even climbed the tree in the front yard with my skates. It's like they were permanently attached.

Once I did a cartwheel between my brother and his friend Frankie..the skates got him right in the eye. My mom assured Frankie's mom that my butt had been rightfully whipped. Ah, the good ol' days where you could actually smack your kid for doing something stupid without Child Protection Services called on you..
Reply:yes I did...mostly disco and early 80's stuff
Reply:I don't remember anything much specific, but mostly 80's techno with a smattering of hair metal.

Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train comes to mind.

Good times.
Reply:Nope,i use to roller blade as a kid!
Reply:I remember skating with metal wheel skates on the sidewalk

That was really no fun at all, but it was all we had so we thought it was great
Reply:oh ya, and i wasn't too good but i still tried...

village people , freak out, weird al....ahhh the memories
Reply:I didn't indoor skate much %26amp; fortunatly I was born in the era when skate boarding was nailing on skates to a board and into my late teens watch it bloom into a multi million dollar industry.
Reply:yeah
Reply:No i rolloer 'bladed' haha apparently that was cooler.

I remember songs from Tony Hawks 1 like Superman by Goldfinger.

And Reel Big Fish!
Reply:i did roller skate when i was a teen (many moons ago) but i did it at the best place you could in the street, so there was no music playing. I would've taken my walkman, but with it on my ears i couldn't hear the cars coming behind me.
Reply:Well I remember the skating rink and the keys we used at home on our own (had to put them on our shoes) but I wasn't old enough to even BE out there on the Rink (got hurt) and the music was probably The Beatles last ones?? Thanks for the Memories though!
Reply:I did I roller skated to boys 2 men...

Its a diffrent era thats why you dont know this songs.
Reply:I did! I loved to roller skate!

I really can't remember many of the songs, but our roller rink played horrible/lame music like Britney Spears *shudders*
Reply:absolutely - three words for you: SHOOT THE DUCK
Reply:Yes, songs? omg, that was a long time ago.

Reo speed wagon, keep on lovin' you. For some reason I remember that. Probably cause I didn't have a guy to skate with for the couples skate.
Reply:Yes, and I seriously can't remember the songs.

How can i learn to roller blade?

I'm sixteen and i still don't know how to roller blade. i can't even roller skate. i went to a skating party with my cousin at a roller rink and i just clung to the wall and fell down so many times. It was embarassing. Where can i learn how? or does it matter if i can't roller blade? Is it an important skill?

How can i learn to roller blade?
In a way it doesn't really matter. A lot of my friends don't. If you want to get some roller blades. Then all you need to do is keep your balance. It's basically like running but you don't move your legs as fast as you can. You push as hard as you can, with your legs. Good luck.
Reply:Like you learn everything else, you have to start doing it!
Reply:just keep your balance
Reply:I think it doesn't matter at all, but if you want to learn you have to practice a lot until you know how. I don't think there is another way. But, don't feel bad.. Good Luck
Reply:Practice, practice, practice

Roller skate music, from the 1990's?

I am looking for songs they used to play at skating rinks back when I was younger, similar to:

Ginuine - My Pony

Aaliyah - One in a Million

TLC - Creep

Aaliyah - If your girl only knew

TLC - Waterfalls

Mariah Carey - Fantasy

Keith Sweat - Twisted

Snow - Informer

Paperboy - Ditty

LL Cool J - Doin It

You know, not rap but not techno, slow jams from the early 90's with that type of style.

Thanks!

What is proper roller rink skating etiquette?

I am taking a group of first grade brownies skating. One of the questions we need to answer is proper roller rink skating etiquett practices. Hopeing some of you could come up with safty and etiquette practices for me to share with my troop.

What is proper roller rink skating etiquette?
To wear pants or skorts.

If you are passing someone closely, she should say "Passing on your left.

Slower skaters to the outside edge. New skaters, in the center.

No food or drink (this means gum) whilst on the skate floor.

If you accidentally trip someone, it is polite to turn around and appologise and offer a hand up.
Reply:Tell them not to do the whip. (when they all hold hands and the last person gets whipped or thrown from the line), no conga lines, no roller-derby style skating.

The roller rink should have a list of rules posted. Maybe you could call them for these rules ahead of time.

Have fun!
Reply:Call the roller rink where you will take them and ask them.
Reply:No running inside the rink.

No tripping, or skating into anyone on purpose.

Try not to grab onto anyone else if they feel like they are going to fall.

No food or drinks on the actual skating floor.

Make sure skates stay tied and if they come untied, leave the rink floor before they tie them.(stopping in the middle of the rink is trouble waiting to happen)

Make sure wheels and stoppers are tight before starting to skate.(nothing worse than to get going and have one or the other fly off)

Hope that helps. Have fun and good luck!
Reply:Have fun.

What could I do to prevent water blisters from forming when I roller skate?
Get you some "corn huskers" lotion and put it on your feet daily to make your skin more pliable and wear thick socks. That helped me as I skated th California coastline.

Something other then Barbie's My First Skates.

Thanks

What size shoe does a 4 year girl wear? What roller skate would you recomend that I buy her for a gift??
The age of your child is not indication of how big her feet are. Go to a shoe store a have her sized so you don't cause her discomfort and injury.
Reply:i think she;ll need a 6 number in line roller skates...

itzz best for her....
