What do you think of Roller Derby?

I am a roller derby player in Los Angeles. Roller Derby is basically a race between two girls on roller skates (not inline skates) and the obstacle in the race is a fighting/blocking pack of girls. half of the pack is on one racers (we call them jammers) and the other half is on the other jammers team. You score points by passing opposing blockers. Each blocker is 1 point. Can't elbow, trip, pull hair or clothesline. All girls. It's in every metropolitan area in the US. What do you think?

What do you think of Roller Derby?
Roller derby is the best sport EVER! Athelticism + comraderie with a great bunch of people. I can step into any major town in the US and sit in on a practice. It's a whole lot of love and mutual appreciation. I'm in the best shape of my life and it's all thanks to derby.

Reply:I'll pass, don't care to see women fighting. Why don't you just go into a boxing ring?
Reply:Billie, there's really little to no fighting in roller derby. Like in any sport, players sometimes get a bit angry. There's penalties for fighting, in most leagues it'd usually get the girl tossed out of the bout.





I think what she meant by "fighting" was more like the blockers aggressively preventing the jammer from passing them. There's rules that go even further than she mentions, regarding how and where physical contact can be made.





But yeah, they'll bump each other, get knocked out of bounds, and get knocked down. All in good fun, and hopefully without injuries.
