Ok I've seen the Time-Life 70s thing on tv, with Greg Brady wearing the same shirt he did when he was with the "bunch". Anyway when this song comes up, the credits only say a first name, Melanie. Melanie who? She kinda looks all spaced out, but has a nice voice.
I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, you've got a brand new key ...?
Melanie Safka
Reply:That is the name she went by, no last name. Just like Madonna.
...I think that we should get together and try them out to see. I've been looking around a while and you've got something I need...
Song came out around 1972 or 1973.
Reply:Melanie Safka, an American singer-songwriter. Brilliant one at that too.
Reply:That is her whole name for singing. That song is "Brand New Key" by "Melanie" Just Melanie (Like Cher)
HERE IS HER OFFICIAL WEB SITE:
http://www.melaniemusic.net/
By the way, her last name is Safka
Reply:Well Thats all I could find on her is just Melanie.
Reply:It's just "Melanie" like it's just "Cher" or "Madonna." She was born Melanie Safka, but her stage name was just Melanie.
Here's a link to a brief biography of her, if you're interested: http://launch.yahoo.com/ar-257812-bio--M...
Reply:Melanie.....nothing more. That's her stage name and how she was billed on the Top 40 charts. For all we know, she's probably a retired bank employee, grandmother, living in Colorado with her retired engineer husband. Her life as a 60's one hit wonder is galaxies far, far away in her memories.....for all we know.
Reply:Brand New Key by Melanie, she only used her first name. Her first hit Lay Down (candles in the Rain) was so much better of a song. I liked it anyway. Check it out on Limewire. That took me back to high school. Thanks for the memory flash!
Reply:Her full name is Melanie Safka, but she was known simply as "Melanie" And "Brand New Key" is her claim to fame.
