Walmart, an athletic store? I haven't had a pair in oh... bout... 35 years.

Most atheletic stores carry junkie skates. The skate shop in your local rink is the best place to get skates. Most of the time if you purchase them there they'll help you tweak them to your liking too.

Reply:There are shops that specialize in roller skates now. Mostly due to the Roller Derby Uprising across the US. I suggest using the web to locate a good pair of skates. Talk to the persons over the phone to make sure that you get the correct fit and what their return policies are. Leather boots will always last longer than Walmart skates and you won't have to change the bearings and wheels.
Reply:Your best bet would be to purchase your skates on-line. www.lowpriceskates.com is great place to buy skates. They usually ship the same day that you order and you get your skates in a matter of days. Customer service is great if there are any problems with size or you need to return the merchandise. If you buy from your local roller rink, the prices are usually marked up about 50-75% than what's on-line. I like to try on skates at the rink, then order on-line. Athletic stores do offer skates, however, they too are marked up and usually are not the better quality skate. You can get a good pair of (starter) skates online for a little more than what you would pay at the store and they would be better quality.
